Henry Tomingas began water way pioneering at the age of 12 including
solo winter time river expeditions. In 1963 as he was the first to pilot
a raft through the famous "Narrows" on the Snake River in Jackson
Hole Wyoming. He was also the first to run commercial expeditions through
the Narrows and named the main features such as "Lunch Counter"
and "Kahuna".
In 1971 Henry was the first to commercially float in Glacier National
Park Montana.
Mr. Tomingas has been involved in research studies since 1964. He worked
on the National Geographic Yellowstone Grizzly Bear Study, Radio Tracking
and biological studies with Drs. John & Frank Craighead.
Other major projects: Susitna Hydro-Electric, Bradley Lake Hydro-Electric,
Design Survey Alyeska Pipeline, North Slope, Hydrology, Surveying, Field
Director, Survey Inspections, Vessel Operations and Management.
Experience includes, remote projects, submersibles, management and logistics,
extreme Arctic conditions using both helicopter and allterrain vehicles.
Starting in 1978, Captain Tomingas has also commercially ran his own fishing
vessel out of Homer Alaska.
Captain Tomingas founded Ocean Explorers in 1981.
